Jonathan Omavuayire Lessor
was born in Warri, Nigeria on November 26, 1960. He had his early education in this oil-rich city in the Niger delta region of Nigeria.
Signs of his creative
gift manifested in childhood, though not
much attention was paid to it, not until
after secondary school education. However,
his formal education in Art started in 1981
when he gained admission into the school
of Art and Design at Auchi Polytechnic,
Auchi to commence a five-year course of
study.
Between 1988 and 1993, in line with nature,
he embarked on a quiet but very rewarding
journey of self exploration and discovery,
probing and experimenting with diverse media
and techniques. His style which is characterized
by heavy impasto as well as the different
knife techniques, which today marks his
identity, evolved from this period.
His versatility has led him to other creative
areas. He designs and produces decorative
items such as table and floor lamps which
are now popular with decorators and collectors
alike.
